FG DENIES NEF CLAIMS ON LAGOS GOLD REFINERY The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has dismissed claims by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that the Federal Government sited a gold refinery in Lagos in violation of the federal character principle. In a statement issued on Tuesday by the
Dele Alake, never stated that the Federal Government established or owns a gold refinery in Lagos, noting that several privately owned refineries are being developed across the country.
According to the statement, the Lagos refinery aligns with the ministry’s value-addition policy, which discourages the export of raw minerals and promotes local processing and manufacturing. The policy has reportedly attracted major investments, including lithium and rare earth processing plants in Nasarawa State and Abuja.
The ministry urged stakeholders to verify facts before making public claims and reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for private sector participation in the mining industry nationwide.
